Being a Community Responder is all about community resilience; providing an enhanced emergency service to your “neighbours” when it is required to save life. These volunteers are all medically trained to the First Person on Scene (Intermediate) level allowing them to provision the highest level of patient care within their communities. Each scheme consists of like minded volunteers within a community that are willing to give some time to be available to respond to 999 calls from their home or workplace.
These volunteers respond to call in a highly visible vehicle with suitable markings to allow the public to identify it. It is not fitted with emergency (blue) warnings and has not exemptions in regards to the law (speeding, traffic lights etc) other than parking restrictions when attending an emergency. The vehicle may be fitted with Amber warnings to provide additional safety and visibility for the volunteers when attending emergencies on or near the highway.

In specific areas the Teams are equipped with Life Bikes which involve special selection and testing criterion. Volunteers for this role come from a kaleidoscope of backgrounds and providing they can cope with the physical rigours of the role and pass a suitability interview they will be selected. However, it should be noted that currently the Charity is only provisioning this service in Scotland within Tayside, Perthshire, Forth Valley and Fife areas. Should you live within these are areas and are interested in getting involved please contact us using the form below.
Due to the high number of applications that we receive for England, we are currently only recruiting for areas where there are current First Response Schemes. We are however creating new schemes in Scotland. Please check out the First Response locations map before applying. National First Response map![]()
