Training with First Response.

If you are interested in joining First Response then please complete the Online Registration Form. This will be passed on to the Scheme Manager for the area in which you live. They will make contact you and discuss the application process.

Pre-requisites to joining First Response

Ideally, you will have completed a First Aid at Work course within the last 2 years.

All Responders MUST undergo an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. This will be carried out by First Reponse and you may be required to complete a further check with the Ambulance Trust for the Scheme you join. This check is then carried out annually for the duration of your time with First Response. .

Joining Process

Firstly, you will have an interview with two senior members of the scheme that you have applied to join.

For information on the training that you will receive please follow this link: Training

Prior to your First Person on Scene (FPOS) course, you may be asked to complete a number of Observer shifts with the scheme in your area.

This is for 2 main reasons:-

  1. To prove your commitment to the scheme.
  2. To show that you can deal with the reality of the Trauma environment.
After your FPOS course you will do 2 Third manning shifts with a frontline crew to familiarise you with the way in which the Ambulance Trust in your area works. It will also give you some hands on experience before you go out for your first real shift.

Once you are ready, you will go out for the first few shifts with one of the Senior Drivers in your scheme, who will ensure that you are familiar with the car and the equipment that you will use. They will also show you the local area, including the Stand-by points and the ambulance stations.
